OSUT

Ce ai facut pana acum in organizatie ?

Concret, activitatea mea in cadrul organizatie s-a rezumat la actualizarea orarelor; Verificarea si actualizarea paginilor siteului organizatiei; Cautarea si prezentarea catorva idei, teme si workshopuri pentru ITFest; Participarea la trainingul despre wordpress; Efectuarea taskului primit de la departamentul de IT (blog pe platforma wordpress). Nu in ultimul rand, am participat la OSUT AG si la sedintele departamentului in care m-am inscris.

Ce vrei sa faci in continuare in OSUT ?

The NSA is building a quantum computer to crack almost every kind of encryption

New documents leaked by Edward Snowden reveal two NSA programs that seek to build a “useful quantum computer” that can break all known forms of classical encryption. Such a quantum computer would obviously give the NSA unprecedented access to encrypted communications, but a working quantum computer is also vital for defensive purposes: If someone else gets their hands on a quantum computer first, then it is the US government that will suddenly have all of its encrypted communications cracked wide open.

According to the documents leaked by Snowden and published by The Washington Post, there are at least two programs that deal with quantum computers and their use in breaking classical encryption — “Penetrating Hard Targets” and “Owning the Net.” The first program, Penetrating Hard Targets, is funded to the tune of $79.7 million and includes efforts to build “a cryptologically useful quantum computer” that can “sustain and enhance research operations at NSA/CSS Washington locations, including the Laboratory for Physical Sciences facility in College Park, MD.” The second program, Owning the Net, deals with developing new methods of intercepting communications, including the use of quantum computers to break encryption.

EmoSpark is an Android-powered AI cube that reacts to your mood

People tend to be a little creeped out by a machine pretending to be human, as evidenced by the almost universal uncanny valley response to humanoid robots. However, that doesn’t mean it is a bad idea for technology to be a little more human in the way it responds to us. The EmoSpark is an attempt to make artificial intelligence more friendly by packing the AI into a small cube that can recognize and react to your emotional state.

The EmoSpark console is only 3.5-inches on a side and fits in the palm of your hand. It is being designed by inventor Patrick Rosenthal who wants to use the EmoSpark to recognize not only people, but their emotions in real time. The cube does this with traditional face-tracking technology and a content analysis engine developed by Rosenthal. Theoretically, by glancing at you, the EmoSpark will be capable of differentiating between basic human emotions.

Unhackable System Claimed: Could It Be True?

A Hungarian company is trying to capitalize on fears of big government spy programs by promising NSA-proof data storage, and challenging anyone to break inside their systems or website. But some experts say tech firm Tresorit’s $25,000 “hacker challenge” is just a public relations gambit that doesn’t prove much.

The firm, founded in 2011 by graduates of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, says it offers secure cloud data and client-encrypted data. That means that it gives encryption keys to clients who want to store files and other kinds of data so customers do the encryption rather than trusting the firm itself to protect it, says Tresorit spokesman Szabolcs Nagy. Those keys can then be shared with others.

First Transparent Tablet Lets You Touch From Both Sides

Transparent tablets may sound like something straight from science fiction, but it may not be long before translucent slates hit the market. Grippity claims to be the world’s first see-through tablet to come with two-sided touch controls.

The recently launched Kickstarter campaign promises to deliver the slate by next fall. Grippity features a semi-transparent 7-inch 800 x 480 display, and both the front and rear panels support capacitive multi-touch input. Running on a Cortex A8 processor and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, you’ll find 4GB of storage space with an SD card slot that adds up to 32GB of extra room. Grippity supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and also comes with IR blaster that allows it to function as a remote control.

Super-material could create robot muscles with 1000x human strength

When you flex a muscle in your arm, it’s not the muscle that’s shrinking, but the cells that comprise it. Each cell lining the muscle’s length has its own limited contractile ability, one driven by tiny motor and ratchet proteins that crumple up a cell and refuse to let it relax. Rather than being a single continuous muscular action, your bicep contracts as a result of millions of tiny, discreet contractions all working in concert. That being the case, it’s always been something of a misnomer to refer to robot muscles as muscles, per-se — despite being visually similar, they are really just servos, or hydraulic pumps, or whatever else. This week marks the first proof of concept for an attempt to change that, to make usefully strong artificial muscles that actually work like muscles — with all the advantages and disadvantages that come with it.

Human emotions mapped for the first time, shows where we feel love, fear, and shame

Researchers in Finland have compiled the first authoritative atlas of “body maps” that detail where we feel emotions. We can now clearly see that happiness actually makes us feel tingly all over, that sadness is felt in the heart, and that depression is characterized by an all-over numbness. It would seem that idioms such as a chest puffed with pride, or cold feet, are very much seated in physiological reality.

Google acquires Boston Dynamics and seven other robotics companies: Next stop, Judgment Day

Google, the search engine and advertising company, has acquired Boston Dynamics — the robotics and engineering company famous for the creation of some of the world’s most advanced robots, including BigDog, Cheetah, Petman, and Atlas. This brings Google’s total number of robot-related acquisitions to eight, and the company now has teams of robotics experts in California and Japan. As we’ve previously reported, Google’s robots efforts will be led by Andy Rubin, who was formerly in-charge of Android. It is clear that Google is seriously — and rather suddenly — interested in robots. What isn’t clear, though, is why. Is Google planning some kind of synergistic and masterful play to integrate its AI and machine learning software algorithms with humanoid helper robots? Is this the start of a story that ultimately leads to the technological singularity and Judgment Day?

RAM prices will continue to climb – last year’s rock-bottom prices will probably never return

Two months ago, a fire at a Hynix factory created a shortage in DRAM inventory and exacerbated the gradual climb in DRAM prices. While the fire wasn’t all that severe — Hynix has sworn that its memory capacity will ramp back to full in fairly short order — its impact on the market has been significant. In early September, the price of 8GB of Corsair memory was sitting at $72. Today, it’s jumped up to $93. Other components show similar increases — Kingston 8GB packs have gone from $66 to $79, and Corsair’s 16GB RAM packs are up to $150, from $130.

A year ago, 16GB of DDR3-1600 from Corsair was $67, which gives you some idea of just how much prices have already risen. And now, there’s evidence they could be headed higher. Spot prices have jumped more than 5% this week, as OEMs begin to rebuild inventory. Historically, jumps in DRAM spot pricing are often reflected in channel pricing, much as the price of gasoline responds to the price of oil.
